Struggling with your quiet time?

on

One thing I’ve had to struggle with whenever I’m at home is defining a proper routine for my quiet time. It is one of the reasons I miss school already, here is why? At school I wake up , have a light workout( so my eyes are wide open ), I can’t afford to sleep off while praying and then I spend ample time studying the scriptures and praying, it’s always a sweet experience. At home, it’s always wonderful to be with family and then I have to do chores and still go out to relax, I end up squeezing time for something I used to have enough time for. Its been a real transition and so I decided to get tips from those who have had the struggles and still do but they have found a way to make the best the of their time through God’s help. I believe their answers will help.

Person A : As for me, it takes a deliberate decision & reminder that you’re not in school anymore. To be able to keep up with my quiet time and grow spiritually, I use every free opportunity e.g walking home from driving school. I also joined a unit that reminds me of the importance of prayer, I read spiritually uplifting books. Above all, I understand I can hardly go far by my strength, so I ask God to remind me continously, on days I have lapses I don’t beat myself up, I just trust that the following day will be better.

Person B : Am I even growing, haha…I have learnt that with freedom comes discipline, I’m still a very young christian and early enough it struck me that the coal easily grows cold when separated from the other burning coals, so I try not to find myself alone and distant from the fire place. I immediately acquainted myself with a church as soon as I got home, I attend morning prayers daily, spend the journey back home connected, I read spiritual books to gain capacity,. Finally my pastor is a source of encouragement.

Person C : Generally for everyone, changing environment is usually not an easy process and so I consciously tell myself that I cannot afford to lose touch with God especially now that I’m out of my usual niche, so I start early and adjust my quiet time to the period where no one would distract me, I study their routine, assist when needed and then retreat to spend the free time studying God’s word. The best part asides inner motivation is talking to like minded friends that keep me accountable.

Person D : For me, I basically stick to night time when everyone is asleep , that’s my perfect time to pray. I also try as much as possible to speak in tongues and listen to music when doing my chores. I realised having friends that are like minded goes a long way.

Person E : I will not lie, it has been a struggle but despite it all, I wake up for my quiet time before family devotion, in my free time I read books, pray and study the scriptures. God has helped me to be consistent despite the interruptions.

Person F : First thing is to rely on God, trusting that he will help me. Then I create time with purpose, saying that I will pray and study the word when I feel led {ko le work} Distractions away, i identify them and work on them. God is not asking us to spend our every breathing moment with him, our capacity differs but to ensure that our heart is still on him, that we are growing and not receeding. Church, audio messages and books help a lot. However We should try to encourage one another, it makes it easier.

This post is just to let you know that you are not alone, you can see that different people have their adaptive mechanism. Find yours and above all enjoy the process God is taking you through. Strive daily to hold on to him no matter how crazy your schedule appears.
